As the work week came to a close on Friday, Somerville residents joined friends and family at Lincoln Park for the 5th Annual Great Urban Campout.

A fire pit located in the center of the soccer field was a focal point of the event, drawing in crowds of children eager to roast marshmallows and visit with their fellow peers while on summer vacation.

As some prepared their s’mores, others grilled up more hearty meals including hamburgers, hotdogs, and other savory suppers for the family.

The true essence of camping was not only found through the smell of a smoldering fire and grilled dinners but through the echoing of laughter carried with a cool breeze across the populated soccer field.

Five years ago the Campout tradition began in hopes of bringing Somerville residents together in a family friendly atmosphere. Today, the event still holds its purpose and has been proven successful through soccer games played, friends made, and memories created.

Friday night wound down and soon all flashlights were turned off. When Saturday morning’s sun rose, campers were treated to coffee and donuts as a thank you for making The 5th Annual Great Urban Campout as enjoyable this year as it has been in the past.
