To the Editor:

On behalf of Somerville Little League baseball, we would like to sincerely thank all the players, parents, coaches, and everyone who was involved with last Saturday’s 75th Anniversary Celebration and All Star Game. On a picture perfect day, we were able to recognize and honor three volunteers who have given countless hours over the years to help Somerville kids learn more about the great game of baseball. Brian O’Donovan, Mark Ardolino, and Arthur Lanoue all received richly deserved Lifetime Achievement Awards for their selfless efforts teaching and mentoring the kids of Somerville

In addition to Somerville Alumni from 1939, 1964, and 1989, representing 75 years of Little League baseball in the City, we were fortunate to have Red Sox Legend Dennis “Oil Can” Boyd on hand to throw out the first pitch, sign autographs, and graciously pose for pictures with all kids (and adults!) that asked him. Thank you, Can! We also need to recognize and thank the City DPW & Recreation Departments for all the work they did to make sure this event ran smoothly. Lastly, we would like to especially thank Mayor Joe Curtatone for the support and leadership he provides to youth sports and Little League Baseball to make events like these possible.

Sincerely,

Somerville Little League Baseball
