Saint Clement School has just completed an exciting and successful fall athletic season.  The smallest school in the Catholic Central Small League, Saint Clement fields fall teams in soccer, cheerleading, and volleyball for girls and football for boys.

The motivated and dedicated coaching staff has a total of twenty-five years of experience at the school and emphasizes participation more than victory.  This year the Anchors enjoyed both. Center midfielder Taisha Dupre was named a league all-star for soccer and fellow junior Jessica Popken for volleyball.

The cheerleaders concentrated on supporting the football team rather than competing themselves so the success on the gridiron reflects the excellent performance of the Anchor cheering squad. And what success the football team achieved! They were undefeated in their league and finished the season 10 and 2. The Anchors scored 398 points for the season, an average of 36.18 per game and had 162 points, an average of 14 per game, scored against them.

Quarterback Michael Sullivan completed 118 passes for 2,102 yards, scored 30 touchdowns, and contributed 6 two-point conversions. Deron Hines as running back carried 121 times for 1,017 rushing yards, 10 touchdowns, and 6 two-point conversions and as linebacker effected 96 tackles. Wide receiver/safety Khaneil Bruce earned 1,206 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns, and wide receiver/cornerback Junior Oyaronbi 1,143 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 3 two-point conversions. The team won the Catholic Central Small League title and took home the Division 6 North championship trophy. They beat the defending super bowl champions, Cathedral High School, twice and attained a rank of 57 in the Boston Globe Sports Writers’ rankings.

Anchormen Junior Oyarombi, Michael Sullivan, Connor Sullivan, Will Rennie, Casey Baptiste, Brandon Williams, MacAllen Marcelin, Larnell Coleman, Marcus Carvalho, Deron Hines, Khaneil Bruce, and Paul Catalano were chosen as Central Catholic League All-Stars, and Deron Hines, Khaneil Bruce, and Paul Catalano were named league Most Valuable Player, Offensive Player of the Year, and Defensive Lineman of the Year respectively.

Saint Clement School, pre-K through Grade 12, is an elementary and college preparatory school located on the Somerville-Medford line with a student body representing 35 communities in Greater Boston.  Good luck to the Anchors basketball and hockey teams, cheerleaders, and elementary school pep squad.
