Somerville Fire Department responds to Heath Street Fire

On Tuesday, December 18, at 12:04 p.m. the Somerville Fire Department responded to a house fire at 82 Heath Street.  The fire heavily damaged a second floor apartment in the two story duplex and resulted in water damage to the first floor and basement.

All four apartments in the building have been deemed unoccupiable at this time and nine occupants have been displaced. One male was transported to the Somerville Hospital for smoke inhalation. Damage is estimated to be in excess of $100,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Somerville Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Unit (FIU) and is not considered suspicious.

This was the second fire responded to by the Somerville Fire Department within the past twenty-four hours. At 2:04 a.m. on Tuesday, December 18 firefighters responded to a reported car fire on Avon Place. The fully engulfed vehicle also resulted in damage to a shed at 133 Cross Street. This fire is considered suspicious and is currently under investigation by the Somerville F.D.’s  F.I.U.
