A utility pole that once stood tall on Medford Street in Somerville at the city line on Gore Street in Cambridge fell to the ground on Friday at 5 p.m. during rush hour.

Vehicles that were passing along that busy street just missed tragedy as the fifty foot utility pole barely missed their vehicles.

A second utility pole just feet away is also being surveyed because it suffered huge cracks in its structure due to the pull tension of the wires when the first pole fell.

Somerville and Cambridge Police and Fire units blocked off the street  and  sidewalks until emergency utility crews arrived to secure the scene.
