Carnaval @ SomerStreets

On Sunday, June 3, 2012, (rain or shine) the City of Somerville will host the first of five SomerStreets events of the year, entitled “Carnaval,” along Broadway (from Temple Street to Pennsylvania Avenue.) The SomerStreets program encourages active living, walkability, and community involvement by closing a section or sections of road within the City, and conducting programming along the route for residents of all ages. The event will be from noon-4 p.m.and include a motion parade from the East Branch Library (at noon), Music and Entertainment on 3 stages, Foss Fest, SomerPeople Multicultural celebration, Food, Arts & Crafts, Kids activities and much more.

In order to ensure public safety at the event, several road closures and parking bans will be in effect.

Westbound lane from the intersection of Temple Street to McGrath Highway

• Closed to all vehicular traffic

• No parking on-street from 8 a.m.  – 6 p.m.

• Residents who live on the west side of Broadway will be able to access Broadway from Fellsway West

Eastbound and westbound lanes of Broadway from McGrath Highway to Pennsylvania Avenue

• Closed to all vehicular traffic

• No parking on either side of the street from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.

• Residents who live on the west side of Broadway will be able to enter/exit residences at Pennsylvania Avenue

• Residents who live on the east side of Broadway will be detoured onto Pearl Street

Bus Schedule – buses will be rerouted from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Please contact 311 for more information.

Residents who live on Broadway please call 857-523-9017 in advance or on the day of the event, and City volunteers will assist you in leaving/returning to your property safely during the event.
