The St. Clement Anchormen upped their overall record to 3-4 by beating Notre Dame Academy 4-3 on Friday, April 20, at Trum Field in Somerville.  Senior Luke Hartnett (Medford) started on the mound and gave up the three runs in the first inning and then settled in and left Notre Dame scoreless through five innings by striking out six batters. Junior Kevin Foley (Medford) relieved Harntett in the fifth inning with the bases loaded and one out. Foley pitched brilliantly, striking out the next two batters and not allowing any runs.

In the sixth inning, Foley helped himself by hitting a single, knocking in the winning run to secure the lead for the Anchormen. Foley went on to pitch another scoreless inning and secured the win. Foley struck out a total of six batters.  Junior Jamey Thompson (Everett) helped the effort by going 2 for 4, with 1 RBI and playing solid defense at second base. Senior Alex Fagundes (Cambridge) assisted by going 1 for 3 and knocking in a run.

The Anchormen host their league rivals Lowell Catholic and the Marian Mustangs this week.

The Lady Anchors captured their third win of the year with a convincing 21–3 win over Notre Dame Academy of Lawrence on Friday, April 20, to even their overall record to 3-3. Senior Nicole Cella (Charlestown) struck out two batters and walked just four. Freshman Jessica Popken (Medford) went 2 for 3, scored two runs and knocked in 3 RBIs. Fellow freshman Christina Puccio (Medford) scored three runs and tallied 2 RBIs of her own.

The win lifted the Lady Anchors who came off of a devastating 10–4 extra inning loss against Maimonides Academy of Brookline. Junior Allison Caloggero (Medford) pitched the entire game going eight innings and striking out seven batters and walking just seven through five innings. With one out in the sixth, the Lady Anchors made two critical errors allowing Maimonides to tie the game and put it into extra innings. Maimonides rallied in the eighth inning to bring the final score to 10-4.

The Lady Anchors welcome head coach Guy Cafarella of the highly successful EMmass Panthers Softball Junior Olympic Program based out of Woburn. Guy led the EMmass Panthers to numerous regional and national ASA tournament berths. Guy brings the team a wealth of knowledge, experience and leadership to hopefully bring the team back into tournament contention.

The Lady Anchors will also face Catholic Central League rivals the Lowell Catholic Crusaders and the Marian Mustangs.
