Somerville Police officers responded to a call at a Medford St. apartment last Sunday on reports that a woman had been punched in the mouth.

The alleged victim reportedly stated that she and her boyfriend had been drinking and that an argument had begun between them, leading to the man striking her, police said.

The woman reportedly explained to officers that the argument had concerned the boyfriend’s alleged infidelities, and that the confrontation escalated to the point where the man eventually hit the woman, according to reports.

Police officers on the scene noted that the woman appeared to have a swollen lip, with a bit of blood visible on her lower lip, police said.

It was also noted that the man’s T-shirt was ripped and that there were visible scratches on his chest, according to reports.

Officers on the scene said that the man appeared to be in a highly intoxicated state, as stated in their report.

The man, Michael Wilson, 38, of Fitchburg, was placed under arrest, charged with aggravated assault and battery.
