Police were dispatched to the Family Dollar store on Somerville Ave. last Sunday in response to an alleged shoplifter attempting to leave the store.

Upon their arrival officers were met by the store manager, who informed them that she had observed two females walking in the store and putting items in their bags. At that time she contacted another employee to check the surveillance video to see if their activities were caught on tape and they reportedly were, according to police.

The manager said that she then decided to wait at the register until they were ready to leave to see if they would pay for the items. When both females came to the register the first female paid for a bottle of bleach. When she was confronted by the manager about the items in her bag she reportedly left the store.

The second female was detained at the register and was questioned by the store manager. The woman reportedly showed a false ID and she was later identified as being Laura Teixeira, 39, of Brockton. She reportedly stated later that she did not know who the person on the ID was or why it was in her wallet. She then stated that she did not have any other form of identification on her.

While one officer held Laura Teixeira at the store, another officer walked out of the store along with the manager to see if we could locate the other shoplifter, according to reports. She was found in the Laundro Max, reportedly hiding the stolen items in a trashcan.

The other suspect, later identified as Mary Teixeira, 60, also of Brockton, was escorted back to the store to undergo questioning by the police officers, according to reports.

Both women were eventually placed under arrest and charged with shoplifting by asportation.
