City of Somerville receives HHS award during SOPHE annual meeting

The City of Somerville received the HHS Healthy Innovation Living Award from Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius during the Annual Meeting for the Society for Public Health Education in Washington, D.C. Mayor Joseph Curatone accepted the award from Secretary Sebelius.

The City of Somerville received the HHS Healthy Innovation Living Award from Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius recently, during the Annual Meeting for the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE).

The City of Somerville was recognized for Shape up Somerville, a program that promotes and supports healthier life choices for individuals of all ages.

Mayor Joseph Curatone accepted the award and shared program details and results with the 500 health educators attending the SOPHE meeting.

Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius provided the keynote address at the SOPHE Annual Meeting and highlighted the critical role prevention plays in public health and outlined the National Prevention and Health Promotion Strategy. She presented the Healthy Living Innovation Awards to communities, businesses, health care organizations and other groups for their outstanding work in promoting healthy lifestyles.
