The Ciampa’s family also had two daughters, Carmela and Eleanor, for a total of 9 children at the Pearl Street home. This family has a long history here in Somerville, one that has contributed to the city in many ways. Come and join the entire Ciampa family and friends this Saturday.

There is just about another week left to take out nomination papers to run for local office. Monday, June 27 is the last day and papers have to be returned with signatures by June 29. For Alderman at large 150 signatures are needed, Ward Alderman and School Committee only 100. This past week Valdo Menesses Jr., a local businessman and former Air Force Logistic director, has taken out nomination papers for Ward 3 school committee. Also taking out papers this week is Todd E. Easton of 35 Hudson Street for Alderman at Large. So far 6 have taken out papers. They need 3 more for a primary.

Regarding who has the best candy at the various city departments, although we do favor the Election Department candy, the ladies down at the Water Department, especially Darlene, have been putting out some pretty expensive Hershey’s candies of late. So at least for this month we have to go with the Water Department. A few news talkers are out there and we are getting reports back that more and more are putting candy out. We even hear that the Mayor’s office has gotten into the act. We’ll keep you posted.

Lots of Happy Birthdays this week to a lot of special people here in the ‘Ville. Apparently June is or was a busy month. We know we are missing quite a bit but here goes: A big Happy Birthday to local Attorney Mike Dwyer, a lifelong Ball Square resident and businessman. Our good friend Ricky Willette is turning 60 this week, doesn’t even look it. When you see him tell him that you can’t keep your age a secret in the Ville. Donna Amenta of T&P always has a smile on down at Traffic and Parking and is a great party person. Chuck Roche, another well known guy here in the ‘Ville. A big Happy Birthday to Alderman and Board President Rebekah Gerwitz. We certainly wish her the best. Another notable is Suzanne Bremer of Union Square and Tufts Library. Happy Birthday to Victoria Mahoney, long time ‘Villen. Former Villen Jessica Forsyth-O’Brien, now in Florida, who some of us miss along with her mother Kathy Forsyth. And how can we forget former Editor of The News David Smith? We wish them all a very Happy Birthday with many more to come. Now, if you see them, tell them you saw it here.

Our good friend and mentor Bob Publicover is once again asking for donations for the Committee for a Response to AIDS. Their funds have been depleted and the monies go to help those that are in need and can’t afford it. He’s asking you to send your tax-deductible donation to him, made out to “CRA” c/o Robert Publicover, 47 Madison Street, Somerville, MA 02143.

So we hear through the grapevine that local celebrity and well-known chairman of the ZBA board resigned earlier this year so that he could put in for his pension over at the SHA. Once that was done he asked to be put back on the ZBA board again. Then we hear he’s moved to Winter Hill. Well, maybe he’s joined an already elite group over at the Ten Hills section, which is quickly filling up with those that want to be close to the Mayor?  Guess the Ten Hills is the place to be, with all the celebrities. It does have a fantastic water view, nice and peaceful.

Alderman at Large Dennis Sullivan (another Ten Hills resident) is kicking off his summer Office Hours starting this Saturday, June 18, at 10a.m. in his former neighborhood, East Somerville Library on lower Broadway, then 11a.m. at Dunkin’ Donuts in Union Square and at 12 noon at Dunkin’ Donuts at Highland Ave and Central St. Guess Dennis is a Dunkin’ guy, wouldn’t you say?

We recently saw local Attorney Anne M. Vigorito at Dunkin’s last week, she’s looking good and she’s one of Somerville’s finest.

Update on the Council on Aging: We hear that Ms. Cindy will be back to work real soon. The final touches on the investigation have been done. We hear that she was cleared of everything, that this was a smoke-screen, back-stabbing incident by others in the department, but that was normal with certain individuals in that department. Meanwhile, Lady J (who is on paid leave) has been seen at the centers around the city again. We do apologize though for saying earlier in our comments that her husband, Demo Man, had a 50K Cadillac Escalade. We were wrong and it was pointed out that it was the $70K version not $50K version. We apologize for that. We wish him well driving around from gas station to gas station filling up. Must be difficult just after declaring bankruptcy.
