This Sunday morning is the 27th Annual Scholarship Breakfast held by Gene Brune over at Anthony’s in Malden. Ticket price is $20.00 for a good cause. Time is 9 to 11a.m. Gene Brune does more for the city of Somerville than any other individual over the years. How can you not support this long time breakfast? It’s for a great guy, an excellent cause, and you can meet and greet a lot of old time friends who have never missed it in 27 years. We’re keeping our eyes open to see who’s there and who’s not.

Rumor in the latest saga in the Council on Aging is: we hear that while Lady J has recently requested a 12 week leave of absence due to stress, we understand that she’s getting paid for it, and we also hear that she calls the COA office quite often every day, so if work is stressful why call it on a daily basis?

****************

On another note Joan the mouth, although laying low, we hear she has been meeting up later at nighttime with Lady J and Demo man. Some have seen them recently at a Dunkin Donuts, we hear. Are they planning their next wave of trouble for the city?

Alderman at large Bill White has his house under agreement. We heard that he was looking at houses in Andover, or maybe it was Dover? We’re not sure but its amazing he put it under agreement. Maybe he hired a full line of cleaners to clean up his house mess, who knows? But some who have been in his house will tell you that it hadn’t looked that good since before he bought it, just saying!

For the lady at DPW, this is a rumor column. A rumor column that also lets people know what’s going on. Maybe sometimes good to some and maybe not to others, but when you’re asking a question and you don’t like the answer it doesn’t  mean anyone was rude, just that you probably didn’t like the answer.    We won’t give a name this time, but for someone working in a department that was recently cited for rudeness, maybe they should not be so defensive for another party? Maybe the stress working in such a high demand job might be too much for some, maybe not.

Celebrate “A Vision For Tomorrow” at the Greek Orthodox Church located at 29 Central Street on Sunday May 22nd.   After Divine Liturgy, there will be a ground breaking ceremony to inaugurate the five year vision of the church grounds.  Following the ceremony, an old fashion picnic will take place with music, dancing and great food. The day is intended to honor the church’s roots, plant new ones, celebrate their families, and be as one group of Hellenes in the garden of life.

Congratulations and best of luck to Jean Scarpa of Century Bank here in Somerville, who will soon become the new President of Somerville Rotary in June. We know she’s an accomplished lady in her profession, and we can tell she’s going to be a good President for the club.     Rotary supports a lot of good causes here in Somerville and is always looking for new members. They meet Tuesday afternoons at 12:15 at the Mt. Vernon Restaurant. They are all local civic and business professionals. Contact Jean at the bank for membership, 617 625-4336. Our good friend and great Villen Bob Publicover is looking to start raising  funds again for his favorite local charity “Somerville Aides Committee.” Now that Bob is feeling much better he will be seen here and there in the city raising awareness for this tragic disease, and how many are affected by it here in Somerville . If you would like to donate please email him at bobpublicover@aol.com .

Our own Billy Tauro “King Lion” here in the Ville wishes to thank all those that came last Sunday morning to the Lions charity breakfast at the club house, which was packed. Hundreds of locals were seen coming and going. The club did very well and, of course, a lot of the credit goes to our own Billy Tauro. He is a great leader and knows how to put things on.

Congratulations to local resident Darcy Dwyer who recently graduated Sunday from Smith college a  Phi Beta Kappa with a major in engineering and a minor in Arabic/Middle Eastern Studies. Darcy was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and will be doing a research project on solar energy in Kuwait starting in the Fall. She was named the Ford Motor Scholar in environmental sustainability. Meanwhile, her younger sister Emily is a junior also at Smith, majoring in Environmental Science and Policy. We wish Darcy the best in her studies. She is a smart young lady who is going to go far.
