Last day for hazardous waste drop-off Saturday 11/14

Have a fall cleanup list you’ve been avoiding? The Somerville Department of Public Works (DPW) wishes to remind residents that the last days for hazardous and yard waste collection this season are quickly approaching. DPW collection of these materials will resume in Spring 2027 as per the usual seasonal cycle.

Hazardous Waste

The two final hazardous waste drop-off events this fall at the DPW yard (1 Franey Road) are on:

  • Thursday, November 5, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, November 14, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Accepted hazardous waste materials include motor oil, aerosol paint, household cleaning chemicals, rechargeable batteries, and more. Proof of residence such as a driver’s license or utility bill is required. Waste materials should be placed in sturdy boxes and not in loose or plastic bags. For more information on materials accepted and how to safely prep them, visit somervillema.gov/HazWaste or download the Somerville Waste Wizard (somervillema.gov/wastewizard) app for Android or Apple phones.

Yard Waste

The final week for residential yard waste collection in 2026 will be Monday through Friday, December 7-11. Place yard waste curbside for pickup on your scheduled trash collection day. After December 11, yard waste may be brought to the DPW yard (1 Franey Rd.) on weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. or between 1 and 3:30 p.m.

Please note: yard waste will not be collected if it is in plastic bags.  Place yard waste in paper bags or loose in barrels marked with City-issued “Yard Waste Only” stickers. Free stickers may be picked up from DPW at One Franey Road during business hours or contact 311 to request stickers. Tie branches into bundles no larger than 3 ft x 3 ft.
