Somerville Public Schools (SPS) is offering free Preschool and Kindergarten Screenings for young children residing in Somerville who are not enrolled in the public schools.
Somerville Public Schools offers screenings yearly as a way to assess children’s developmental progress and identify children who may need further evaluation for special education services. Screenings provide an opportunity for families to ensure their children receive the support they need for a successful early learning experience.
Child Find Preschool Screenings for 3- to 5-year-old children who are not enrolled in the public schools are scheduled on October 28, January 13, and March 3, from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. at Capuano Early Childhood Center, located at 150 Glen Street in Somerville. Parents, guardians, and caregivers with concerns about their child’s development are encouraged to register for an appointment.
SPS is also offering free screenings for Somerville residents with a student enrolled in Kindergarten at a private school or home school. The screening is scheduled on October 28 from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. at Capuano Early Childhood Center.
Screenings are by appointment only, and advance registration is required. Participation in the screening program is free and optional.
“We’re thrilled to be offering Preschool and Kindergarten Screenings this year,” said Ruth Santos, Director of the Somerville Family Learning Collaborative. “This allows us to provide
early support that helps set Somerville children and their families on a strong path as they begin their educational journey.”
The screenings are available to all Somerville residents and are conducted by trained professionals in a supportive, child-friendly environment.
