District-wide event includes “Welcome to SHS” for incoming students

Somerville Public Schools (SPS) will welcome students and families back for the start of the new school year with its annual Back to School Fair on Tuesday, August 25, from 4pm to 6pm at Somerville High School.

The event will bring together school leaders, district staff, and community organizations to help families prepare for a successful school year. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet principals and district department heads, connect with local community partners, learn about programs and services available to students and families, and receive free school supplies. Free frozen treats will also be provided for students attending the event.

“Starting a new school year is an exciting time for students and families,” said Superintendent Dr. Rubén Carmona. “This event is an opportunity to strengthen connections between our schools, families, and community partners while ensuring everyone has the information and resources they need for a strong start to the year.”

Immediately following the Back to School Fair, Somerville High School will host Welcome to Somerville High from 6pm to 8pm, a special event specifically for incoming ninth-grade students and students who are new to the high school. The event will provide an introduction to the school community, information about student life and academic programs, and an opportunity for students and families to become familiar with the supports and opportunities available at Somerville High School.

Both events are free and open to all Somerville Public Schools families.
