Greensleeves and String

Local non-profit animal rescue organization Kitty Connection is urgently seeking a foster home or adoption for two older cats, whose owners learned after buying a new home that the condominium association doesn’t  allow cats. If adopters or foster homes aren’t found by the end of August, the 13-year-old siblings – Greensleeves and String – will be euthanized.

“Owners of these two cats didn’t find out until after they closed on their condo that the association only allows dogs, not cats. They can keep the cats for a couple of weeks in hopes of finding them a new home,” Kitty Connection President Marie Mazzeo said. “If that’s unsuccessful, the owners are opting for euthanasia rather than subject these senior kitties to the stress of separation in a shelter. We desperately need someone to  take them in – preferably together, as they’ve been since birth.”

Mazzeo pointed out that finding new homes for senior cats is always a challenge. Cats can easily live into their mid- to late teens. Too often, an owner’s death or change in living situation leaves senior cats homeless – at a time when they need more comfort, not less. In the case of Greensleeves (female) and String (male), they have been well cared for, with minor medical issues that are managed with diet not medication. Both are spayed and neutered, respectively, are current with vaccines and have had recent physical exams.

Russell

Less fortunate are two other senior cats that came into Kitty Connection’s care in July – nearly blind Walnut (12- to 13-years old) and approximately 16-year-old Russell. Both were left to fend for themselves on the street. Kitty Connection is seeking a forever home for Walnut and a hospice foster home for Russell.

Greensleeves, String, Walnut and Russell are among over 450 animals rescued annually by Kitty Connection, which also offers a low-cost spay and neuter program and funds over 375 spay and neuter procedures for pet owners in need each year (email: lowcost@kittyconnection.net). Volunteers provide foster homes for cats and kittens until they are adopted, and Kitty Connection ensures that they are spayed/neutered, tested for common illnesses, and vaccinated before they go to their new homes. Kitty Connection also provides community education and outreach about the importance of responsible pet ownership.
