The City of Somerville’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (SOIA), in partnership with the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Massachusetts Chapter, invite all to a Nepali flag-raising ceremony on Sunday, April 12, on the City Hall concourse (93 Highland Ave.) from 2 to 4 p.m.

The event celebrates Somerville’s vibrant Nepali community and welcomes Nepali New Year 2083, which occurs on April 14. Nepal follows the Bikram Sambat (BS) calendar—approximately 57 years ahead of the Gregorian calendar—and its flag is the only non-rectangular national flag in the world. Its two triangles symbolize the Himalayas, while the sun and moon represent strength, calmness, and longevity.

Attendees will hear from Mayor Jake Wilson, SOIA and NRNA staff, and light refreshments will be served. For more information, please contact 311 (617) 666-3311.
