Somerville Residents Urged to Review Parking Impacts & Cold Weather Safety Tips
Although the City does not have plans at this time to call a snow emergency, please be mindful of where you’re parking with snow coming, and please follow important safety tips for staying safe and warm.

Parking Impacts and Reminders: To ensure plows and emergency vehicles have safe passage
  1. Do not park within 20 feet of a corner.
  2. Where possible, please move your car to the odd side, or use or share your driveway, to aid plowing.
  3. Cars parked on streets must leave 12 feet of clearance for the travel lane for fire trucks and plows to pass through.
  4. Cars parked too close to corners or blocking travel lanes may be ticketed and/or towed. If needed, consider parking on a main road or wider road, or please use or share your driveway.
Remember, to ensure safe passage for all, property owners will be responsible for removing snow and ice from sidewalks abutting their property within six daylight hours of the end of snowfall. Snow must be cleared down to the pavement and paths must be a minimum of 3 feet wide.
Extreme Cold
It will be dangerously cold from Saturday night into Monday, with below-zero wind chills expected especially during the nighttime and early morning hours. The Winter Overnight Warming Center will be open nightly. Anyone can visit the Somerville libraries during regular business hours, including weekends, throughout the winter season to seek relief from the cold.
