The City of Somerville is pleased to announce that the Community Choice Electricity (CCE) program continues to offer competitive and stable rates for residents and businesses. As of August 1, 2025, Eversource’s basic residential electricity rate will increase to 14.884 cents per kilowatt-hour (¢/kWh), slightly higher than the City’s default CCE Local Green rate of 14.840 ¢/kWh.

While Eversource updates its rates every six months, Somerville has secured its CCE rates through January 2028, offering long-term price stability and ongoing support for renewable energy. The Local Green rate, which includes additional investment in regional renewable energy sources, remains the program’s default product. Participants may also choose from other CCE options, including the Somerville Basic, which offers the lowest price, and Somerville 100% Green, which offers the most renewable energy.

Through the CCE program, renters and homeowners alike can participate in the transition to cleaner energy. Enrollment is automatic for most electricity customers in Somerville, but anyone can check their enrollment status or opt in at cce.somervillema.gov. Participants can also switch between CCE products at any time with no fees or penalties.

For more information about how the program works and how to make the switch, visit cce.somervillema.gov.

Please note: While current CCE rates are lower than Eversource’s, future savings are not guaranteed.
