Somerville’s Pollinator Action Plan is your guide to planting smarter and supporting nature.
With spring in full swing, the City of Somerville is reminding residents that the season of growth is also the season of pollinators. As you shop for plants to fill garden pots or garden beds, you can play a role in feeding and sheltering the insects that keep our global ecosystem functioning.
“Pollinators are looking for flowers to feed on and this spring, one of the most powerful ways you can support biodiversity is by doing less,” said Mayor Katjana Ballantyne. “A few extra weeks of letting your lawn be a little wild feed the pollinators that help our whole ecosystem thrive. I’m so grateful to our Public Space and Urban Forestry team for developing a resource that makes it easy for all of us to take action. Together, we can fight local and global pollinator population decline right in our own yards, balconies, parks, and planter boxes.”
