Family Advocate and Counselor Seeks to Be a Voice on the Council for Those Not Heard

Human Service worker Holly Simione formally announced her campaign for one of the four Somerville City Council At Large seats in the upcoming election this fall, 2025. Simione, who is the Chairperson of the Somerville Commission for Persons with Disabilities Commission, also served as the Governor appointed member (and former Chair) of the Massachusetts Developmental Disabilities Council. She is a native-born Somerville resident, a graduate of Somerville High School, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Lesley College.

Simione works as a Case Manager at Incompass Human Services a non-profit human service agency, scaffolding and supporting families caring for Medically Complex children at home who are among our most vulnerable community members, often lacking access to critical health care providers and services. Some are also facing language barriers, homelessness, food insecurity, and residency status.

She has extensive experience in the multi-faceted health care technology industry, negotiating contracts with leading technology companies, including Hewlett-Packard, EMC, and VMware, among many others. Simione led a team of 70+ engineers and developed the first electronic submission for a new drug application (NDA) to the federal government.

“I’m running for this office because I believe we need new representation and leadership on the Council. I have a different lens and can be a voice for the underserved and marginalized communities that do not have a seat at the table when it comes to important city decisions regarding development, zoning, public safety, public works, and city finances. One thing you can count on with me as your City Councilor, I’ll always answer your phone calls, listen to your concerns, and your sidewalks and roads will be safer” said Simione.

“I’m proud of my proven track record of consensus-minded leadership, effective bridge-building, and thoughtful collaboration on socio-economic issues and regional equity. I want to bring these skill sets to the Council, whom I have successfully partnered with in the past on important issues facing Somerville, but now often engage in unproductive power struggles. I have years of successful activism experience at both the state and local levels, authoring and testifying on several bills, promoting critical budget amendments, forging relationships and partnerships with change makers, and serving to uplift marginalized communities,” concluded Simione.

Simione presently serves as the Chairperson of the Ward 4 Somerville Democratic Committee, is active in state and local politics, and volunteers her time in local charitable organizations. She resides in Somerville with her husband and college age daughter.

Her campaign kickoff will be held Wednesday, June 4th, from 6PM-8PM at Sally O’Brien’s Restaurant & Bar in Union Square. The public is invited to attend.
