Snow Globe

Janelle Solviletti

Octagon chapel topped
with a bell helmet
rimmed with snowbanks
tall as evergreens
stood up like twin soldiers
Vienna carved in the baseboard.

No life sign in miniature diorama.

I blame Erwin Perzy for
luring us to believe in
paragons of perfection.

We pay homage to
the birth of Silent Night
on living room shelves
and under the weight of
our palms
shake up the tiny world,
eternally jealous of its quick amend
and think,
might I return, too?

— Janelle Solviletti
