Arts at the Armory’s Spotlight Series is thrilled to bring Peter Mulvey to their historic Performance Hall stage with Lyle Brewer as the tour opener on February 3, 2024.

Peter Mulvey has been a songwriter, road-dog, raconteur, and almost-poet since before he can remember. In 1989 he spent a year in Ireland, busking on the streets of Dublin and hitchhiking to whatever gigs he could find. Back stateside, he spent a couple years gigging through the bars of his native Midwest before taking off for Boston, where he returned to subway busking and coffeehouses. Small shows led to larger shows, which eventually led to regional and then national touring. The wheels have not stopped since.

Just last week Mulvey released a new album entitled More Notes From Elsewhere, which includes 18 songs, some of which were written over 20 years ago. The new album is a companion album to Notes From Elsewhere, released in 2007. The two albums are Mulvey’s only full-length recordings featuring him solo on vocals and guitar, which is how he plays most of his concerts.

Lyle Brewer is a guitarist from Massachusetts. He plays original instrumental music and is influenced by folk, jazz and classical music. He studied at The New England Conservatory of Music starting in 2004 and has maintained a strong presence in the Boston music scene ever since.

The Peter Mulvey performance is Arts at the Armory’s first Spotlight Series show to make use of significant recent capital upgrades in sound, lights and projection made possible by a City of Somerville ARPA grant and a MA Cultural Council Cultural Facilities Fund grant. Ticket holders are invited to arrive at 6:30pm for a special Capital Upgrades Demo and Cocktail Hour. RSVPs for the Cocktail Hour are being collected here.

Arts at the Armory Spotlight Series puts the spotlight on local, national and international artists from diverse communities, and provides platforms that amplify these voices. The series includes music, theatre, dance, comedy, multimedia, literary and interdisciplinary arts performances that create immersive experiences sparking joy, inspiration, reflection, and intercultural learning.
