Ignite: A Global Street Food and Fire Festival, Sept. 30

Ignite Festival brings you an evening of international eats, fire throwers, roving entertainment, and a raucous celebration of global culture to Union Square,Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. (rain date: Sunday, October 1).

The festival will kick off with food demos featuring the Arts Council’s Nibble Chefs – learn how to make Salvadoran pupusas and Mexican Birria tacos. All evening long Nibble chefs and slews of local restaurants will be serving their food from Brazilian Churrasco to Venezuelan Arepas to Japanese Bento Bowls. And restaurants throughout the square will be serving Ignite specials you won’t want to miss out on.

Throughout the evening there will be music and dance performances, including Brazilian Sinha capoeira, Haitian dance, Peruvian dance, a showcase of Latin dance from Metamovements – and much more. There will also be roving hula-hoopers and buskers, interactive activities, and light installations. And to top things off, Boston Circus Guild will offer up a fiery performance of flame throwing and twirling – an incendiary act that will light up Union Square.

ABOUT Nibble:
A Somerville Arts Council initiative that includes Nibble Kitchen restaurant (at Bow Market, Union Square), market tours, food festivals like Ignite, and the Nibble Culinary Entrepreneurship Program (NEP). NEP and Nibble Kitchen provide a space for entrepreneurs who are predominantly female and hail from our diverse immigrant communities to test out restaurant concepts in a low-risk environment before launching independent businesses. Nibble supports immigrant communities, celebrates cultural exchange and spurs cultural and economic development.
