Alissa Ebel and Carley Ruemmele, creators of the “Kitchen to Kitchen: Somerville In Food” cookbook.

By Ana Celerier Salcedo

What began as a brainstorm of ways to raise funds for meals and community voices within the local food system soon became an idea to create a community cookbook. All proceeds from the release of Kitchen to Kitchen: Somerville In Food will benefit Come To the Table’s important work, according to creators Alissa Ebel and Carley Ruemmele.

Come to the Table is a community meal organization in East Somerville. It dedicates its services to providing nutritious and warm meals and groceries to anyone without asking for proof or need of sensitive personal information.

The book’s release is in partnership with several local organizations, such as The Somerville Homeless Coalition, The Somerville Food Security Coalition, The City of Somerville, the Somerville Arts Council, and Directangle.

According to Ebel and Ruemmele, the book contains interviews and recipes from local Somerville chefs, volunteers, civil servants, small business owners, community advocates, students, and religious leaders.

“As you read the profiles of our neighbors and cook their delicious recipes, we hope this project will be a way to bring our community together around food while prompting thoughtful discussions on the impact of food insecurity and some of the food access efforts happening in Somerville.” Said Ebel and Ruemmele.
