The Somerville Health and Human Services Department held their monthly meeting for the Somerville Commission for Women, this past Friday, July 7.

The agenda did not include many topics for discussion. After approval of the minutes, the election for the new Co-Chair took place. The current chairs are Stephanie Galaitsi, Deborah Lormeus, Christina (CC) Morone, Fabia Oliveira, Kimberly Sheridan, Crystal Turner, and, Arlen Weiner.

The commissioners, who volunteer for a three-year term and are appointed by the mayor, focus on advocacy, education, and outreach in regards to and on behalf of women. They discussed recruitment for new volunteers to work on committees.

The volunteers serve on various committees and provide assistance in organizing and staffing Commission events and activities. The Commission helps design and implement programs that promote equality for all women in the city, along with coordinating activities of all departments and divisions of the city government on issues affecting women and investigating any injustices and limitations of resources for women.
