Our View of the Times – March 29

On March 29, 2023, in Latest News, by The Somerville Times

Spring has finally arrived, and with it comes the inevitable regular street sweeping activities throughout the city.

As inconvenient and annoying it may be to comply with schedule, it is an inescapable fact of life for us all and we must make the adjustment accordingly.

Practically speaking, the Traffic and Parking department is doing its best to keep city residents informed and ready to make sure they avoid the $50 fine that has been mandated for those who fail to comply with the parking regulations.

The city has provided complete schedules on various Web pages as well as offering email re-minder services and access to scheduling data on its 311 phone line. Additionally, all streets affected are furnished with signs indicated the days and hours of sweeping times.

So all in all, there is little excuse for getting caught with your car being parked in the wrong place at the wrong time. The information is out there, and you can mark your calendars, set your phone apps, tell your mom to call and remind you, etc.

We can grouse and moan about the inconvenience, but let’s face facts. We all want our streets to be safe and clean, and complying with these reasonable regulations isn’t so much to ask of us, is it?

Just get out there when the times comes, put the ignition key in the slot and you know the rest. Nothing could be simpler and aggravation will soon fade away.

Consider it your small contribution to keeping our great little city looking as good as possible. Pitch in and do your part, or at least be ready to pay the price.
