Life in the Ville by Jimmy Del Ponte

Since I’ve been retired, I’ve been watching too much TV. I remember when I was working, I used to think that the perfect life would be to have nothing to do and just watch TV all day. Well, I do other things now but I have to admit the TV is a big part of my life. It always has been. I asked our readers to share their thoughts on what they feel was the best TV show ever. Each comment is in quotes.

Gilligans Island, The Brady Bunch, Star Trek, Batman, Love Boat, and Happy Days.”

The Wild Wild West!

All in the Family, Maude, Petticoat Junction, Laverne and Shirley, Soap, Dark Shadows, Dallas.”

Taxi, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Bob Newhart Show, All in the Family, Cheers, Laverne & Shirley.”

Welcome Back Kotter and of course all the great cartoons, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Yogi Bear.”

There are lots of cable stations that run old shows. Some of my favorite shows are Leave it to Beaver, Dragnet, Highway Patrol, The Andy Griffith Show and The Match Game. I also spent a lot of time watching old westerns too. There are two channels that show westerns all day.

My sister and I were on a locally produced show called Big Brother Bob Emery back in the late 50s. The show was shot live and I remember drinking Bosco and saying the Pledge of Allegiance to a picture of president Dwight D. Eisenhower while drinking the chocolate milk.

Television sure has come a long way since my father used to yell at us for turning the channel selector too fast. “STOP FLIPPING THAT DIAL!”
