Obituary: John M. Crowley

CROWLEY, John M. of Venice, FL, formerly of Somerville, MA, died peacefully on November 17, 2022.  A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the Epiphany Cathedral in Venice, Florida and he was interred at the Sarasota National Veterans Cemetery.  He was the beloved son of the late Cornelius and Bridget (O’Brien) Crowley of Somerville.  Loving brother of Francis Crowley of Easthampton, Eleanor Healey and her husband Richard of West Roxbury, Margaret Crowley-Rousseau and her late husband Richard of Marshfield, Kevin Crowley of Somerville and the late Cornelius Crowley, Jr.  Also survived by loving nieces, nephew and grandnephews. 

John was a graduate of Somerville High School class of 1961 and Northeastern University in 1976.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1964-1966; serving one year in Vietnam.  For over 40 years he volunteered in assisting people with sobriety concerns.  John worked as an accountant and manager for several private firms and for the U.S. Government.  John lived life with love and gusto.  He cared for others with kindness and commitment. 

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Sts. Louis and Zelie Martin Parishes formerly St. Catherine’s of Genoa Church, 185 Summer St. Somerville on Saturday, March 25 at 10am.  Donations may be made to St. Anthony’s Shrine, 100 Arch St. Boston, MA 02110.

    John was my neighbor and was such a warm and welcoming presence on the street. I enjoyed his stories about growing up in Somerville and his enthusiasm and care for the next generation of children in the neighborhood. John, you are remembered fondly and will be missed!
