Park closures required during maintenance 
 
The City of Somerville’s annual Parks Tree Health Program is set to begin this month to promote healthy tree growth and help preserve Somerville’s urban forest. Now in its fourth year, the Parks Tree Health Program is designed to go beyond routine maintenance. Led by the Public Space and Urban Forestry Division, the program involves a comprehensive health assessment of parks trees by a certified arborist, proactive maintenance work, and development of long-term maintenance recommendations. This spring, 232 trees throughout seven parks will be assessed and maintained through the program.  

Parks will close to the public on days when tree maintenance is taking placeThis year’s schedule is as follows:

  • Glen Park / Capuano Field: February 21, 22, 23 and April 18 (school vacation weeks)

  • Grimmons Park: February 24 and April 19 

  • Kenney Park: March 6, 7 

  • Morse-Kelly Playground: March 8 

  • Dickerman Playground: March 9 and April 17 

  • Stone Place Park: March 13 

  • City Hall Concourse / 1895 Building: April 17, 18, 19 (school vacation week)
