West Branch Library open to all for warming on Saturday, closed for general use

A section of the West Branch Library began serving as an overnight warming center for persons experiencing homelessness Friday night. The city  will keep that function running 24/7 until Sunday morning. All other persons are also welcome to use the library for warming from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. But they will be closed for general library use otherwise on Saturday. The East and Central Branches will open as planned and are available to all for warming and general use.

Please see www.somervillema.gov/cold for additional warming centers and safety tips. If you see an unhoused person outside or anyone in distress in the extreme cold, call 911 right away. Police will respond. Minutes matter at extreme temperatures. The Somerville Homeless Coalition has been  working with the city to provide emergency shelter to our unhoused residents during this extreme cold.

Please stay in if you can, and dress warmly if you must go out.
