Obituary: Richard M. Mangan

January 13, 1958 – December 31, 2022

Richard M. Mangan, of Somerville, died suddenly on December 31, 2022, he was 64 years old. Son of the late Richard and Shirley (Silva) Mangan. Rich was the partner of the late Mark Richard.

Dear brother of Barbara Pacini and her husband Richard of Middleton, NH, Kevin Mangan and his partner Daniel S. Portillo II of West Dennis, Brian Mangan and his wife Nancy of Medford, David Mangan and his wife Denise of Somerville, Marybeth Brennan and her husband James of Stoneham, Susan McNamara and her husband Daniel of Lexington, Stephen Mangan and his wife Johnna of Tewksbury, Michael Mangan and his wife Lori of Everett and Kathleen Pjura and her husband William of Lexington.

Also survived by aunts, an uncle, many nieces, nephews, cousins including his godchildren and extended family who loved him very much.

Rich was a devoted student and continued running his Somerville High School reunions for his class of 1976. He attended Tufts University for his undergraduate and graduate degrees in electrical engineering. Rich had a successful career at General Dynamics before his recent retirement. He excelled in all that he was involved in. He was an outdoorsman, whether skiing, camping or at the beach. He was a servant leader in that he ran the St. Joseph’s BINGO and church bazaar kitchen for many years. Rich had numerous dear friends including his Thursday night/Patriots crew, the friends he spent the summers with in Provincetown and many more whom he loved dearly.

Rich will be remembered for his warm smile. He was always available to lend an ear and provide helpful advice. He was a big-hearted, giving, and selfless man. Rich was the backbone of our family, and we will miss him dearly.

Calling Hours will be held in St. Joseph Church (Upper Church) 262 Washington St., Union Sq. Somerville on Friday, Jan. 6th from 3PM-8PM with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated the following morning, Saturday at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited to attend. An elevator and handicap entrance available on the right hand side of the church. Services will conclude with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
