The Somerville High School Track Parents and Alumni Club invites runners to participate in their “Somerville Monster Dash 2022,”Sunday, October 30, beginning at 11 a.m. at Assembly Row (Riverfront Park), Somerville.

Join us for the “Spook-tacular Inaugural Somerville Monster Dash 5K and kids’ fun run,” say the organizers.

The 5k (3.1 mile) Monster Dash course will be conducted all on a DCR walking, running and bike path. The 5k start is at Riverfront Park on Great River Road at Assembly Row Somerville MA, and follows along the Mystic River to the underpass boardwalk at Fellsway.

After clearing the boardwalk at .3 miles, the course loops the Mystic River along Shore Drive by the Blessing of the Bay Boathouse, then follows the paved path alongside Route 93N for a half mile, crosses the Mystic river alongside Rt. 16, then winds its way through Torbert Macdonald Park and the Mystic River State Reservation, before crossing back over the Mystic River, alongside the Fellsway, back to the underpass at 2.8 miles, and onto the finish line at Riverfront Park.

Prizes will be awarded for creative and spooky costumed runners that finish the race!!

There is also a Youth Fun Run. Prior to the Monster Dash 5K, a half mile loop course for the youth run will start and finish on a closed path around Baxter Riverfront Park at Assembly Row prior to the start of the 5K event. Goodies and treats will be on hand for each participant of this 12 and under event.

Proceeds will help the SHS Track Parents Team and Alumni Club pay for extra activities for athletes on the cross country, indoor and outdoor teams. These include going to national meets to banquets and running gear. Each year scholarships are awarded to runners as well. The Somerville Track PAC , Inc. is a  501C-3 non-profit organization formed  in 1992 to support Somerville High School Boys & Girls Cross-Country and Track teams. The organization supports the positive goals that these teams promote, including physical fitness, fair competition, and spirited teamwork. All proceeds generated for the Somerville Track Parents & Alumni Club (SHS Track PAC) benefit the girls’ and boys’ Athletics Teams at SHS and may be used for equipment, team gear, registration for regional and national invitational meets, as well as for scholarship or book awards for eligible graduating Somerville High School athletes.
