Ignite 2022 Festival moved to Sunday, October 2

Update: Somerville Arts Council ‘s Ignite 2022 Festival will be moving to their rain date, Sunday, October 2 from 6-10pm. Check  schedule and performance updates here

To celebrate Union Square’s sizzling food landscape, Somerville Arts Council is bringing you the IGNITE Festival! Expect an evening of international eats, fire throwers, roving entertainment, and a raucous celebration of global culture. Sunday, October 2, 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. Union Square, Somerville. $2 donation.

In addition to many local food vendors, there will be interactive light installations, numerous illuminated performers and to top it all off, FIRE! Local eateries throughout the Square will be featuring Ignite themed specials.

Beyond the global grazing opportunities, a Korean Drumming performance will kick things off to get the crowd moving with melodic rhythms of the East. The main event in Fire Square will feature performances such as Haitian dance to fire performers; the night will close out with the fabulous Ignite Dance Party led by A Trike Called Funk! Throughout the evening, there will be light projections, installations, and many other performers. And of course, there will be numerous activities and our infamous Tiger Head.

 

About Nibble:

A Somerville Arts Council initiative that includes Nibble Kitchen restaurant (at Bow Market, Union Square), market tours, food festivals like Ignite, and the Nibble Culinary Entrepreneurship Program (NEP). NEP and Nibble Kitchen provide a space for entrepreneurs who hail from our diverse immigrant communities to test out restaurant concepts in a low-risk environment before launching independent businesses. Nibble supports immigrant communities, celebrates cultural exchange and spurs cultural and economic development.

6:20 p.m. Jen Lin Dance – Korean Drum Dance Performance; 6:45 p.m. Flamenco Boston; 7:15 p.m. KS Dance Studio – Haitian Dance Performance; 7:45 p.m. NewYakCity 95 – Hip-Hop Dancincing; 8:30 p.m. Boston Circus Guild –fire performance – 9:15 p.m. A Trike Called Funk – DJ Dance Party.

Ongoing over the course of the evening, there will be dazzling light installations and projections by local artists: Caitlin Canty, Greg Kowalski, Pamela Hersch, Shanna, Maria Servellon, Maura Mendoza, Circe Rowan, and Olivia Moon. Enjoy roaming performances by the Somerville Fairy Troop and hula-hoop artists. In addition, there will be illuminated balloon art, glow-in-the-dark face painting, street activities, and more! Festival lighting design by Todd Sargent.

Food Vendors Include:

Union Square Pizza, El Mineirao, Siam Ginger, Masala Square, Machu Picchu, Gracie’s Ice Cream and the Arts Council’s Nibble Culinary NEP Entrepreneurs. Check out the Union Square restaurants for potential Ignite-themed specials in honor of the event.
