On June 13, a School Committee meeting was held over Zoom to go over what has been going on in the schools and to present awards to the Valedictorian and the Salutatorian of Somerville High School, as well as recognize many other members of the Somerville school community.

Superintendent Mary Skipper and Principal Buchanan were present during the meeting to recognize Valedictorian Marie and Salutatorian Lucy on receiving the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents Award.

Recognition of Service was also announced about various members of the school community who are retiring. Members who were recognized were Margarita Lopez, Kathleen Donahue, Mary Beth Bernstein, Kim Conly, Tony Dicheca, Harry Regis, and Donna Romeo.

Each person had another member of their school community speak about them and how they made a difference and how much they will be missed now that they are retired.

Other members of the community were also recognized for their accomplishments and the differences they have made in their schools and with the homeless communities.

Students in the community were given the chance to take the floor and discuss some school events that have taken place recently. There were two walk outs for women’s rights at Somerville High School. There was also a rally against racism and policing after school hours at Somerville High School and over 50 students participated.

The sophomore and junior semi formal dance was held last Friday and lots of students enjoyed themselves. Fall sports registration for students opened up this week. As the last week of school is upon these students, they are finishing up their final projects and exams and getting ready for the summer to finally arrive for them.
