Shocked just shocked I tell you. All these young voters know is identity politics. They vote race, gender, and any other hot social group or cause that’s in. They knew absolutely nothing about the 2 winners they picked believe me. Most of them won’t even live in the City in 2 years they’ll be on to another fight for justice somewhere else.

  2. Casimir H. Prohosky Jr. says:

Awww…poopie po-po. Did your guy not win? Gee, I wonder why…

All these young voters know a crook when they see one.

    Nighty-night.

    🙂

  3. Ron Newman says:

Maybe they don’t know exactly what they want (as evidenced by a 3-way split), but they sure know what they DON’T want — a loathsome bully. I am glad that the circus part of this election is now over.

I think if Dan’s point were the case, all the non-Tauro votes would have gone to Mbah. The fact that it was basically an even split among the three real candidates means people are very much thinking about things.

As for Tauro, while I sympathize with a couple of the things he grumbled about, how on earth a guy with that temperament, history and (lack of) intellect expected to break through in a community like this is beyond me – especially when he had so few real ideas to offer as an alternative.

Yes, much of what the 3 real candidates campaigned on was just gloss to show they cared about some big issues they’re ultimately not in a position to do anything (or extremely little). But it’s nice having a mayor you can at least empathize with, who cares about the same things, and I like both of the two options. Now I hope the remaining two candidates can dispense with that and show us they really, truly know what the job of mayor entails.

  5. Villenous says:

It’s like clockwork. Every two years there’s a right wing leaning crowd in this city that vows THIS time they’re going to start winning seats in city government and every time they go down in flames. It’s one of the reasons why I love living here.

  6. Dan Dowling says:

“Bully” Tauro has announced that he is contesting the results on the basis of fraud. Is this what all Trump supporters will be doing in the future? If you’re too much of a wimp to tolerate losing, then don’t run in politics races.
12,683 people voted for a candidate with a progressive agenda. 2,215 voted for Tauro and his Republican smelling “Make Somerville Great Again” campaign. The man is not only a recent Somerville Resident – 3 years, he supported Trump in 2016. Although he is listed as an Independent, if it walks, talks, and acts like a tool of the GOP, it is a tool of the GOP! Thank you Somerville for knowing an opportunist when you see one!

  7. Bob Ross says:

I’ll admit only 14k votes cast to elect a new mayor for the first time in two decades does raise an eyebrow, but to declare voter fraud Tauro needs to present some sort of evidence, in which (as of yet) he has none.

  8. Villenous says:

The last major mayoral preliminary in the city (2003) only drew 10K votes. This is 40% better.
