Our View of the Times – July 7

On July 7, 2021, in Latest News, by The Somerville Times

It seems as though we cannot get enough of the farmers market scene in Somerville. They have become time-honored traditions and perennial mainstays of alternative commerce in the city.

There is something special about shopping for fresh produce, discovering unique arts and crafts vendors, and enjoying live entertainment in the open air. We feel a sense of camaraderie, too, as we gather to take in the sights, sounds, flavors and aromas that permeate each market site.

The major markets are in full operation now – with the exception, of course, of the Winter Farmers Market, which serves our needs during the off-season – and there is no better time to experience what they have to offer than in the high summer months.

The Union Square Farmers Market, operated by Union Square Main Streets, takes place every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., at a new location: Somerville Ave. between Carlton St. and Hawkins St. (366 Somerville Ave) and will run until November 20.

Groundwork Somerville’s Mobile Farmers Market is underway, bringing fresh produce and other delights to various locations throughout the city. Go to https://somervillemobilefarmersmarket.wordpress.com/ for up-to-date info on locations they are serving.

The Davis Square Farmers Market is there for us, too, at the Intersection of Day St. and Herbert St. every Wednesday, 12:00 – 6:00 p.m., ongoing until November 24.

So you see, there is no shortage of good, old fashioned style trading available for all of us here in the city. Be sure to check them out and enjoy the feeling.
