Troopers from the Medford Barracks, Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and Crime Scene Services Section today continue to investigate a hit-and-run crash that caused serious injuries to a pedestrian last night on William McGrath Highway (Route 28) at Broadway in Somerville. The victim, a 72-year-old Somerville man, was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

Troopers responded to the scene at 8:40 p.m. after State Police, Somerville, and regional dispatchers all received calls reporting a pedestrian was down on the roadway and was injured. Responding Troopers determined that the victim had been struck by a vehicle while crossing McGrath Highway from east to west. At the time he was hit, the pedestrian was apparently coming from the nearby Stop & Shop supermarket and was carrying several bags of groceries.

Evidence gathered to date suggests the vehicle that struck the victim was a white minivan or SUV. The vehicle sustained front-end damage in the crash, including a damaged headlight. Anyone who sees a vehicle matching this description or has information about this crash is asked to contact State Police-Medford at 781-396-0100.
