The annual Boston Society for Architecture’s (BSA) Gingerbread Exhibition and Competition welcomed entries from local architecture firms as well as families and individuals. The theme of this year’s virtual exhibition and competition was Escape from 2020: Fantasyland.

Somerville resident Aoife Troxel, a designer at Helicon Design in Boston, was inspired by something she missed in 2020: attending live shows. So, she rendered a model of the Somerville Theatre, built to scale with more than two pounds of brown sugar.

The competition features entries from everyone from local architecture firms to 5-year-olds.

Individuals voted for their favorites in the form of monetary contributions, all in support of the BSA Foundation’s community design programs and resources, which inspire vibrant neighborhoods and a more equitable Greater Boston.
