Developer Copper Mill has officially canceled its controversial plan to build a 24- to 26-story mixed-use apartment tower in Somerville’s Davis Square.

On August 31, 2026, Copper Mill CEO Andrew Flynn sent a letter to the Davis Square Neighborhood Council stating they will not be moving forward with their 500-unit, transit- oriented housing development in Davis Square.

In the letter, Flynn concluded that large-scale housing development is currently unfeasible in Somerville, leading to the halt of plans in Davis Square. Flynn claims the City’s leadership has created obstacles, overshadowing external challenges. He expressed gratitude to community stakeholders for their past engagement.
