All invited to City Council Meeting at 7 p.m.

Community members are invited to attend Somerville’s fourth Civic Day event on Thursday, September 10, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., with activities taking place inside City Hall (93 Highland Ave.) and on the City Hall concourse.

“The best way to learn about your local government is to interact with it. You ask questions, share stories, learn names, make lasting connections, and build real knowledge,” said Mayor Jake Wilson. “Civic Day is one-stop shopping for City services, with fun activities for the whole family. Whether you want to pick up a pollinator plant for your garden or register to vote, we’ve got you covered.”

Civic Day offers an array of family-friendly ways to learn about your local government and how it can serve you.

Planned Activities Include

  • 311 scavenger hunts
  • Somerville Police (SPD) K9 meet and greet
  • Photo opportunities with SPD motorcycle and Somerville Fire truck
  • Library card sign-ups
  • City Hall tours
  • Porous pavement demonstration

At 7 p.m., attendees are encouraged to head to the Council Chamber on the second floor of City Hall to attend the Somerville City Council meeting and observe local government in action.

“I’m excited that this year we’ll have the live City Council meeting as a headline event for Civic Day,” said Ward Six Councilor and City Council President Lance Davis. “I hope folks will join us in the Council Chambers to see their legislators in action.”

City Hall will be open for the entirety of Civic Day for regular city business (like registering to vote or getting that expiring parking permit renewed), so be sure to walk around City Hall and say hello.

Logistics, Accessibility, Language Access, and Rain Location

The City Hall concourse will be closed to vehicular traffic. Temporary handicap parking will be available along Highland Avenue near the concourse. In the event of inclement weather, all outdoor activities will be moved inside to Somerville High School (81 Highland Ave.)

Multilingual staff from the Language and Communications Access division (formerly the Office of Immigrant Affairs) will be present to offer language support for residents who may need assistance connecting with city departments.
