Abundant Housing Massachusetts (AHMA) has announced its endorsement of Representative Mike Connolly for reelection to the State House representing the 26th Middlesex District, Somerville City Councilor Will Mbah for state representative in the 34th Middlesex District, and Somerville City Councilor Ben Ewen-Campen for state representative in the 27th Middlesex District.
Founded in 2020 to advocate for the creation of abundant housing for all, AHMA works to develop and support a network of grassroots, pro-housing groups and activists across Massachusetts. As part of its mission, AHMA surveys candidates in local races statewide and supports those who share its commitment to building more homes in their communities.
“We need to build more housing, and that’s why I’m grateful for AHMA’s support and recognition,” said Representative Mike Connolly. “From the MBTA Communities Act to the Affordable Homes Act, we’ve made real strides in recent years, but there’s still so much more to do. I look forward to continuing to work with AHMA to end exclusionary zoning practices, allow more multifamily housing statewide, advance the concept of social housing, and push for stronger tenant protections.”
“I am honored to receive AHMA’s endorsement,” said Councilor Will Mbah. “As an immigrant from Cameroon, I know firsthand how important housing stability is. I moved five times in six years because of rising housing costs, and that experience has driven my commitment to expanding affordable housing and protecting working families. I’m grateful for AHMA’s support and look forward to continuing the fight to ensure everyone has a safe, stable, and affordable place to call home.”
“The housing affordability crisis is the single biggest issue facing people in Massachusetts, and I’m thrilled to work alongside Abundant Housing to tackle it head on,” said Councilor Ben Ewen-Campen.
“As founder and co-chair of the Housing for All Caucus, a co-sponsor of the YIMBY Bill, and a key advocate for the Affordable Homes Act, Rep. Connolly has consistently championed reforms that expand housing production while strengthening tenant protections. We look forward to supporting him in his re-election campaign,” saidJesse Kanson-Benanav, executive director of Abundant Housing Massachusetts.
“Councilor Mbah’s track record while serving the City of Somerville is exactly the kind of leader that AHMA is proud to support,” said Kanson-Benanav. “Councilor Mbah was an integral part of creating the Somerville Office of Housing Stability, and has supported transit-oriented development, eliminating parking minimums, and expanding affordable housing investment. We are proud to endorse Councilor Mbah for State Representative for the 34th Middlesex district.”
“AHMA supports candidates that we believe will make a difference in Massachusetts, and that is exactly what we know Councilor Ewen-Campen can do,” said Kanson-Benanav “He sponsored the Affordable Housing Overlay District, was at the forefront of the successful effort to legalize triple-deckers citywide, and has recently championed single-stair construction. We know that if elected, Ewen-Campen will bring the same hard-working, results-oriented attitude he has at City Hall to the State House.”
