Those in public service to our city must be ready, willing, and able to rise to the occasion when called upon to do so. Each one of us, whoever we may be supporting in this year’s citywide election, is searching our hearts to determine whom we feel will best fill those roles.
Most of us seem to be very confident that our favored candidates are up to the task. Others bemoan a lack of integrity or skills required to do the job well among those who are running.
Either way, if we feel passionate enough in our convictions, then it is clearly incumbent on each of us to do our part and make sure we make our voices heard by voting in the upcoming City Preliminary Election on Tuesday, September 16.
This means that we must have the foresight and capability to register to vote if we have not already done so. The process is quick and easy, and is an absolute requirement for being allowed to cast a vote. There really is no excuse for not voting. Registration continues through Friday, September 5, in person at Somerville City Hall. Online registration is possible at somervillema.gov/registertovote. Phone the Elections Department (617-625-6600 ext. 4200) to request a voter registration form. Or call 311 (617-666-3311) to be connected to the Elections Department. Early voting is possible from September 9 through September 11.
Specific info is available at www.somervillema.gov/departments/elections.
Let us hope that those elected will rise to the occasion and realize the potential they may have to become as great as others who have gone before them.
