
Thirteen-Member Task Force Will Propose Model for Civilian Oversight Body in Somerville
The City of Somerville’s Department of Racial and Social Justice (RSJ) today announces that it is seeking three Somerville community members to join RSJ’s Civilian Oversight Task Force. Task Force members will explore civilian oversight models for local law enforcement, gather data, and engage in research that will inform the future of a civilian oversight entity in Somerville, including its powers, duties, composition, and more.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has confirmed that Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office are working with the Boston Police Department in efforts to locate Reyna Morales Rojas, 41, of East Boston. She is described as a Hispanic Female, 5’5”, 145 lbs., black hair and brown eyes. Morales Rojas was last seen on 11/26/22.

Somerville Police officers were dispatched to Sathi Convenience located at 153 Highland Ave. on reports of a shoplifter.
Upon arrival, the officers spoke to the store clerk, who stated that he caught two parties shoplifting inside his store. The clerk said that he just wanted them to return the items without getting the police involved. One of the alleged shoplifters was identified as Rose Sheehy.

The Massachusetts Democratic State Committee announced last week that it has overwhelmingly endorsed legislation to legalize life-saving drug consumption care and grant municipalities the option of creating dedicated overdose prevention centers to combat the surge in fatal drug overdoses in Massachusetts. In doing so, the Massachusetts Democratic State Committee has become one of the first state Democratic Parties in the country to formally endorse the creation of overdose prevention centers to save lives and connect people who use drugs to a range of medical, behavioral health, and substance use disorder services.
