Somerville’s Charter Review Committee seeks community members

Open Positions: Eight positions available

Term: 12 months (anticipated)

Availability: Immediate

The City of Somerville is seeking community members to serve on a Charter Review Committee.

The Charter Review Committee will be responsible for reviewing the City’s current charter and making recommendations for amendments to the Mayor and the City Council in an effort to improve and modernize the City’s structure and governance. The Committee will also engage the community in robust discussions about potential charter amendments. Members should be analytical, open-minded, and forward-thinking as they engage in solution-oriented discussions about the future of City governance.

The Committee will consist of: the Mayor, the City Council President, and the Chair of the School Committee, or their designees; three community members appointed by the Mayor; three community members appointed by the City Council President; and two community members appointed by the Chair of the School Committee.

Preferred Qualifications

Applicants should demonstrate an interest in municipal governance and the role it plays in the lives of community members. Work or volunteer experience with municipal government is a plus.
