The demolition of Somerville High School’s 1929 classroom wing has started, making way for the new construction to come. This is a big step toward the new Somerville High School, but perhaps a bittersweet moment for SHS alums.

A lot of recreational marijuana is waiting in the wings while state and local officials iron out the regulatory details involved in getting the product from the producer to the consumer.

Redbones’ 17th Annual Pig Roast on Chester street in Davis Square took place Monday, July 30, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Whole Hog with all the fixins, a beer garden and live music. Fun for the whole family. Proceeds go to the Somerville Homeless Coalition.

The Somerville Girls Basketball Summer League played Mystic Valley Monday night at Pope John XXIII High School in Everett. Somerville lost to Mystic Valley.

Games are held Monday nights at Pope John High School in Everett.

On Sunday, July 29, police officers were notified that a larceny was in progress and an employee was being assaulted at True Blue Cleaners on Broadway.

Upon arrival, the officers reportedly observed 5 people inside, of which one was pointed out as the assailant by a witness to the incident.

GLX Drop-in Q&A Sessions

In advance of planned bridge closures as part of the Green Line Extension Project (GLX), City staff along with staff from the MBTA, MassDOT, and GLX Constructors, are hosting a series of events and meetings throughout the summer and fall to provide information and answer questions about construction, which is already underway. Staff will be available at most summer events and have planned GLX-specific Q&A sessions and public meetings in the coming months. Please note the following schedule is subject to change:

On Saturday July 28, Salvatore (“Tori”) and Susanne Paterna celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Boston’s Seaport Hotel. Tori, now retired, formerly owned and operated John Solomon’s Inc. on Somerville Avenue in Somerville. Until retirement, Tori and Susanne lived on Bailey Road, in Somerville’s Ten Hills neighborhood. They recently moved to New Hampshire and keep a winter home in Florida. Happy 50th wedding anniversary Tori and Sue!
