Somerville Firefighters Local 76 Deputy Chief Mike Avery and firefighter Barry Hamilton made a special delivery of patches from Somerville Fire and Somerville Police, as well as Cambridge FD, Arlington FD and Stoneham FD to Philadelphia, PA, Engine 33 to help fulfill the Christmas wishes of Evan Potter, the son of a fallen Philadelphia firefighter and Marine veteran Michael Potter.

The City of Somerville Board of Aldermen awarded a citation to City Clerk John Long at their latest regular meeting last Thursday. The citation commended Long for his outstanding work on behalf of the Board and the city.
The holidays can be a pain for a lot of people. When it comes to this time of year, though, that headache should really serve as a kick-in-the-butt reminder of the importance of why sometimes the daily routine should come to a grinding halt for a greater spiritual good.
Many of us are rushing around trying to get everything done in time for Christmas. We all scramble day in and day out, though, with every deadline of our lives so seemingly critical. What this time of year should remind us of, however, is that sometimes it’s OK, if not absolutely essential, to just put the routine on hold, take a step back and reassess what truly matters in our lives.

ABCO HVACR Supply + Solution’s Boston branch hosted its 12th Annual Vocational Day, and its EXPO & Holiday Party on Thursday, December 13, at its 10 First Ave., Somerville branch distribution center.
At the Vocational Day starting at 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., nearly 300 Somerville and greater Boston area students attended from 13 high schools and trade schools, plus principals, vice principals, guidance counselors and teachers.

It is an eclectic urban soup of professionals, newly arrived immigrants, artists, students, dreamers, drifters, all living in close and hopefully comfortable proximity. What may not be immediately apparent is that it is and has been a city of small presses and little magazines.
