Somerville’s indoor mask mandate ended Saturday, March 5. But businesses can still set their own mask policies, so make sure to check before heading in. Masks are also still required for city buildings. Beginning March 14, masks will be optional for students and staff of Somerville Public Schools. The Brickbottom Gallery will be showing original prints by contemporary Cuban artists, most of whom are living on the island. This is the first half of an international print exchange.
In 2019, Janette Brossard Duharte, president of the Printmaking section of the Visual Artist Association of Cuba, approached The Boston Printmakers with an idea for an international print exchange. She invited members of The Boston Printmakers to exhibit in Havana and asked the organization to sponsor an exhibit of Cuban artists in the Boston area.

Sea levels are on track to rise several feet, to make islands and seacoasts uninhabitable. The floods, droughts, heat, fire, storms, and plagues already bringing hunger, displacement, and elevated death tolls to our world will only accelerate if our fossil fuel consumption patterns continue.

Agencies participating in this exercise included MBTA Operations, MBTA Transit Police, Cambridge Fire Department (CFD), Somerville Fire Department (SFD), and Medford Fire Department (MFD) and Cataldo Ambulance.

In honor of National Foreign Language Week, March 6-12, known in Somerville as World Language Week, the Somerville World Language Department will be celebrating through art and music. Thanks to a Cultural Heritage Project grant from the Somerville Arts Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the week will include a performance by Jean Appolon Expressions (JAE) at the Somerville High School Auditorium on Tuesday, March 8, during X-block from 10:05 to 11:00 a.m. JAE supports cultural equity and representation and promotes hope and healing through Haitian Folkloric dance and educational programming. The performance will be live-streamed, which will ensure that all classes at SHS and in the district can enjoy the performance.
