
June is Pride Month, and Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES) is inviting you to join with us in doing a little something extra for our LGBTQ+ friends. For most of the past 12 years, SCES has hosted a monthly dinner called Kate’s Café, which provides food and a space to socialize for LGBTQ+ elders, their friends, and caregivers. The café was on hiatus during the pandemic, but returned this spring. That’s the good news. The bad news is that costs of the event continue to rise.

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and City of Somerville staff are hosting listening sessions to hear from the community about the future of 90 Washington Street, a 4-acre site near the East Somerville Green Line station envisioned as the future home of a new Public Safety Building and a range of civic, commercial, and residential uses. After a brief overview of the project, residents will have an opportunity to share their thoughts about the Public Safety Building project and other potential uses for the site on the adjacent Washington Street Development Parcels.

The Somerville Math Fund was pleased to be able to award four-year renewable scholarships to nine outstanding math and science students.

The Somerville Mathematics Fund is pleased to announce the winners of their renewable mathematics scholarships for 2022. The Math Fund was founded to celebrate and encourage math achievement and these students deserve to be celebrated for their work in math and science while in high school. Thanks to the generosity of many individuals and a few organizations, this year we were able to award a record 9 scholarships, totaling $54,000 over four years.

Agreement includes equity-focused paid parental leave, $35K starting para salary
After seven months of collaboration and negotiation, the Somerville School Committee and the Somerville Educators Union (SEU) Units A and C reached an agreement on a bold and innovative proposed new 3-year contract. Last night, Somerville Public Schools teachers and paraprofessionals overwhelmingly ratified the new 3-year agreement that will take them through the 2024-25 school year.

Ensemble Chaconne recreated court and salon music from 1650-1750 France at the Somerville Central library on Thursday, June 9. The event was the group’s second Somerville Salon Series performance. They have one more performance left in the series called Measure for Measure: The Music of Shakespeare’s Plays on Saturday, September 17 at 2:00 p.m. Their last performance from the series will take place at the Somerville West Branch Library.
