Alexis Rodriguez-Perez, October 14, 6:43 p.m., arrested at Somerville Ave. on a charge of larceny by check under $1200.

SCES Director Paul Hollings to retire in April

Paul Hollings has announced that he will be retiring next year from his position as Executive Director of Somerville Cambridge Elder Services (SCES).

In a letter announcing his pending retirement, Hollings wrote that “Our mission to support the right of elders to live in the setting of their choice has resonated deeply with me,” and “…To work with all of you, to offer alternatives to institutional care, has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my career.”

A COVID-19 vaccine clinic for the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be held Monday, October 18, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the City Hall Annex at 50 Evergreen Ave. Pre-registration is highly encouraged to reduce wait times. Pre-register at somervillema.gov/vaccine. Walk-ins will be accepted per vaccine availability. The clinic is free, and open to all people 18 years or older, regardless of immigration status or health insurance. Identification is not required. If you need assistance, please call 311 (617-666-3311).

 

 

The gun buyback program this Saturday at the Department of Public Works.

The Somerville Police Department and Middlesex Sheriff’s Office are holding a gun buyback day on Saturday, October 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Department of Public Works, 1 Franey Road. Residents could receive up to $200 in gift cards for each firearm turned in. All firearms collected will be safely disposed of.

This year, more than $1M is available to support projects in these categories. Feedback from residents will help inform the CPC’s award recommendations.

Wrong way driver from a long gone bar

Somerville Police officers were dispatched to the 1 Davis Square area last Friday on reports of a motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, the officers discovered two motor vehicles in the roadway at the intersection of College Ave. and Elm St.

One vehicle was facing the wrong direction and headed north bound on College Ave. This particular south bound portion of College Ave is a one way. The other vehicle was facing the correct direction on College Ave.
